As technology scales, visual search is reshaping digital marketing by allowing consumers to search images instead of keywords. In this new revolution, consumers will begin to engage with brands and products differently, which can lead them down a very different pathway.

What is Visual Search

Visual search enables images to be searched in a new way by the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to build on the back of existing machine learning techniques to evaluate images, and identifying possible objects contained.

Tools (e.g. Google Lens, Pinterest Lens) allow you to either take a photo or upload a photo and generate corresponding searches, product/ item information, or similar photos.

As we move toward 2025, visual search will continue its upward trend for 3 reasons. 

- Consumers will move toward visual search because of its increased usage with technology and camera hardware associated with our mobile phones, and its convenience and speed.

- Online stores will start adopting and embedding visual search into their websites. This will provide only a faster and easier shopping experience for consumers in finding product images within the existing platform. 

- Visual search minimizes customer journey friction. Users are able to receive immediate, contextually relevant results, which those ops forks sellers with specific products may not be able to describe easily.
